Who We Are
The founder and Chief Engineer of "That Is 2 Be Engineering Services" is David S. Crampton. Mr. Crampton brings the spirit and practice of modern Industrial Engineering to the challenges of the computerized small business community. He recently completed a career of more than 28 years in Manufacturing Operations at Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto. From the Institute of Industrial Engineers he earned the "Certificate of System Integration". His education includes the M.S. Industrial Engineering, Stanford University, 1981, and a B.S.E.E., Case Institute of Technology, 1967.
The Company offers the services of a loosely knit team of professional associates on a consulting as-needed basis. Together our experience includes big-ticket product marketing, software system publication and turnkey delivery, foreign language translation and customer relationship management.

Designing an interactive web site for a language translation firm in Palo Alto. The site will give the client a web presence and facilitate file transfers.
Designing and proposing a web presentation of the Business Directory of the Brisbane (CA) Chamber of Commerce.
Consulting with the author of an upcoming book and training course on the marketing of big ticket capital equipment and the unique requirements of customer relationship management at the highest levels of large organizations.
from HP career
Designed and implemented a customer contact and software upgrade project. Data retrieval and accuracy improvements led to a 2/3rds rate of successful contact in the direct mailing program.
Developed copy processes for custom configuration of PC hard disks. Sustaining engineering increased the volumes from 3 per day to 250 per day.
Developed software duplication and publishing processes with in-house personnel and equipment. Managed transition of technology and data to out-sourced software publishing vendors.
Led departmental rollout projects for two major changes of the manufacturing information systems infrastructure. Was a workgroup leader for the third generation which included migration to SAP/R3.
Champion for Process improvements in the Production Change Order processes which reduced document turnaround time from 5 days to 1-1/2 days.
Developed techniques for software distribution and revision control to 50 PCs which controlled the Final Test and QA processes for the chemical analysis instrument line.
Led the manufacturing new product introduction teams for major new chemical analysis instruments and related software. Reduced NPI turnaround times to under 4 weeks for high impact products.
Trained key personnel in the Kepner-Tregoe "Problem Solving - Decision Making" process. Was also a founder of the Division's Quality Team programs.

Software Tools
A prototype for this site was built using Lotus FastSite, release 1, from the Lotus SmartSuite. This gave the site most of its graphical look and set the basis for the navigational style. David Crampton reworked the navigation into the frames-based context and authored the content pages. Mr. Crampton uses the "vi for Windows" editor and likes to work in the HTML language itself. The Perl scripting language and other tools come from MKS Toolkit (www.mks.com). The MKS "Source Integrity for Windows" product is used for revision control, backup and archival of the html documents. Most of the graphics work is with Corel 5.0. The font used in the company's logo is "Littlehand" from the PrintMaster Premium product of Mindscape, Inc., Novato, CA.
Computer Equipment
The development environment is an HP Kayak XA-s with 128Mbytes of RAM running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 4) and its associated Personal Web Services.
